Photograph your children

Base your course around photographing your family in your own home

Informal family photography is an area where sheer quality is much less important than catching the moment and the emotion. It’s here that competent amateur will frequently outshine the professional.

Make the most of the weather, if it's sunny and warm get outside, capture them lying on the grass or relaxing in the paddling pool.
If it's raining fit them out with wellies and a mac and capture them splashing around in puddles (get a helper to keep a big brolly over you and the camera). If rain's running down the window shoot them inside from outside and then turn the tables and send them outside.

Indoors capture them using the available light (flash turned off) while they read, write, eat (messily) and play.

Photographing the family around the home can be a great basis for one of my short courses. The only kit required is a digital SLR camera (even the best compacts struggle to produce good results in this area) and ideally a low light lens (which I can lend you).

I can loan you any or all of the kit and after our training session you’ll have a handful of great family shots in both black and white and colour.

We will consider

which locations within the house have the best light, using window light, controlling and blurring backgrounds, setting the kids up in a fixed location, using a mixture of daylight and artificial light and why black and white works so brilliantly with kids.

I’m happy to travel anywhere. Areas local to me in West London won’t incur any travelling expenses, for further afield I’ll be delighted to give you an immediate quote.
